What to do
Feel free to explore the enchanting woodland, the market garden, and the beach at Leinish Bay – all only a few minutes walk from The Sheiling, secluded, and with garden seating provided at strategic points to take in the views.
There are many other interesting things to do and see including:
Wildlife:
From the croft you can watch Sea eagles and golden eagles soaring along the shoreline, heron and other birds of prey fish in the protected inlets of water nearby or simply take in the glorious scenery of Macleod’s Tables, the Cuillin mountains, the golden reflection of the Coral Beach or the view towards the Western Isles.
Locally you can see seals, otters, birds of prey, minke whales and lots of other types of wildlife and fauna.
Tip: Bring binoculars and plenty of room on your digital camera – you’re sure to use them both!
Walks:
There are a number of interesting walks (of varying degrees of challenge) direct from the accommodation, all providing stunning views and breathtaking scenery. Strong shoes or walking boots advised. Apart from Coral Beach, most of the beaches on Skye are quite rocky, and wonderful places for a spot of beachcombing. Venture further afield from The Sheiling, and you have Macleod’s Tables, The Quirang and the magnificent Cuillin mountains.
Fishing:
If you’re keen on fishing, just cast off from the rocky shoreline or cliffs below The Sheiling!
Kayaking:
Loch Dunvegan is perfect for kayaking enthusiasts!
Cycling:
Good quality mountain bikes are available free of charge. There are a variety of cycling enjoyable routes in the immediate area. Take a packed lunch and explore!
